Ridley Scott has confirmed that he is developing a third "Alien" prequel. The new film will continue the story of "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant," with the android David, played by Michael Fassbender, once again as the central character.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the director said that David would be busy creating a "brave new world" for himself. Scott did not disclose other plot details, possible production timelines, or the premiere date.
This explains previous reports that Fede Álvarez allegedly left his post as director of the "Alien: Romulus" sequel due to a conflict with Scott. In early August, information emerged that Álvarez had prepared the final version of the script, written specifically for Fassbender's character, but Scott opposed his involvement, as he had his own plans for David.
Against this backdrop, 20th Century Studios reportedly shifted priorities and launched another film in the franchise into development. The script for the new film is being written by Brian Duffield ("No One Will Save You," "Underwater"). The project will be a standalone story, unrelated to "Alien: Romulus." No other details about it, or information about the future of the "Romulus" sequel, have been released yet.
