GTA VI creators themselves approached Netflix - as a result, Rockstar held the largest gaming broadcast of 2026
Initially, players assumed that Netflix representatives approached Rockstar Games with a business proposal.
The recent presentation of "Grand Theft Auto VI: Extended Showcase" first aired on Netflix. Six hours later, the developers published the recording on Rockstar Games' official YouTube channel.
Some players assumed that Netflix representatives approached the creators of GTA VI with a business proposal: for example, they paid for temporary exclusivity of the presentation to attract subscribers. However, it turned out that Rockstar itself was the initiator of the idea, not the owners of the streaming service.
A Rockstar publicist explained in an interview with Kinda Funny Games: "We ourselves wanted to approach Netflix."
The answer is quite short and can raise even more questions. It is assumed that marketers wanted to introduce Grand Theft Auto VI to a wider audience in this way: the Netflix broadcast could attract the attention of people who usually do not play such projects.
According to Streams Charts metrics, the broadcast of "Grand Theft Auto VI: Extended Showcase" was covered by 9,038 streamers, and the total watch time was about 5,227,798 hours.
The GTA VI presentation managed to surpass Summer Game Fest 2026 (with a peak viewership of 3.81 million), as well as the Nintendo Direct and State of Play shows.
The release of GTA VI is expected on November 19 of this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not yet announced anything about the PC version's release window.
It seems that the developers were indeed able to reach an audience that usually does not interact with such video games – but this is not always "good."
