Noah Centineo spoke about his unfulfilled role as He-Man in "Masters of the Universe." The actor was cast back in 2019 when Sony Pictures was handling the adaptation, but over the next two years, the project never made it to filming.
According to Centineo, work on the film went quite far: the creators showed him preliminary scenes, location designs, and their plans for the world's setup. However, production was constantly delayed, and as a result, the actor's contract simply expired.
"We were very close. I went through the whole audition process. We even did screen tests in a loincloth, everything as it should be. The project was delayed again and again. I think they wanted to keep redeveloping it, and then the contract simply expired. We moved on."
After his departure, "Masters of the Universe" changed hands several times over the next few years. In 2022, the film rights went to Netflix, which chose Kyle Allen as the new He-Man. The streaming service spent about $30 million on the development of this version, but in 2023, it abandoned the project due to a growing budget.
The next attempt was made by Amazon MGM Studios. The studio handed the film to director Travis Knight, and the role of He-Man eventually went to Nicholas Galitzine. This version reached cinemas in June 2026.
The film performed poorly at the box office, grossing $113.5 million against a reported budget of $170 million, but is now successful on streaming. Centineo himself was pleased with Galitzine's work:
"It's not an easy film at all. I watched it, and Nick is magnificent. People don't realize how difficult it is to sincerely play all that deliberate theatricality. I really liked what he did and what he was aiming for."
