The Pokémon Company announced the full-length anime Pokémon: Wild Card. The project was unveiled at the closing ceremony of the Pokémon World Championships 2026 in San Francisco. Along with the announcement, a short teaser was released, showing the main character, a participant in Pokémon collectible card game tournaments, and his partner Mimikyu.
"For the first time in seven years, a new Pokémon movie awaits us. Its main character is a participant in card tournaments, who fights and strives to become a champion."
Pokémon: Wild Card will be the franchise's first full-length anime since "Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle". The previous film was released in Japanese cinemas in 2020, and a year later appeared on Netflix outside of Japan.
Katsuhiko Kitada, who participated in the creation of "The First Slam Dunk", "Attack on Titan", and "Naruto: Shippuden", has been appointed as the director of Wild Card. Akemi Hayashi, known for "Banana Fish" and "Lazarus", is responsible for character design. Production is handled by Story Inc., and animation by CloverWorks studio, which worked on "Bocchi the Rock!" and "Spy x Family".
The premiere of Pokémon: Wild Card will take place in 2027. The exact date has not yet been announced.
