It seems Konami saved Metal Gear Solid 4 DLC thanks to fan efforts

Konami may have used fan help to restore Metal Gear Solid 4 content. Mentions of the SaveMGO project, which preserves Metal Gear Online, were found in the files of the new version of the game.

In the files of Metal Gear Solid 4 from the Master Collection Vol. 2, fans discovered references to the SaveMGO project, which still allows players to use the disabled Metal Gear Online. This may indicate that Konami used community work to restore game content.

Metal Gear Online 2 was considered one of the notable multiplayer modes of its generation. The servers were shut down in 2012, although SaveMGO still supports the game.

Konami did not bring Metal Gear Online back to Master Collection Vol. 2. However, mentions of SaveMGO were found in the port's files. According to community member Marko, the project's work may have helped the publisher gain access to deleted DLC with camouflage for Snake.

SaveMGO stated that the original DLC could only have been preserved thanks to years of the project's work. The story shows the importance of fan initiatives for game preservation.
