Double Fine is ready to make Brütal Legend 2 if gamers raise $100 million for them

The now independent studio Double Fine has launched a new Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for its own game jam. However, the studio attracted attention with a much more ambitious goal: if they reach the $100 million mark, the developers promise to make Brütal Legend 2.

The studio has already raised more than $300,000 out of the necessary $400,000, which is about 71% of the main goal. At the same time, the $100 million target obviously looks more like a joke or a hyperbolic "dream" than a real financial plan for the production of a sequel.

For Double Fine, Kickstarter is far from a new tool. The studio has already turned to crowdfunding in the past: this is how Broken Age was financed, becoming one of the most famous examples of a successful game Kickstarter of those years.

Brütal Legend was released in 2009. The main character of the game is rocker Eddie Riggs, who is transported to a fantasy world inspired by heavy metal album covers. The character was voiced and played using motion capture technology by Jack Black. In 2011, Double Fine reported that the game had sold 1.4 million copies.
