PlayStation Players Can Receive Compensation for Digital Game Purchases in PS Store

Compensation will be credited to the PlayStation Network wallet.

It was recently revealed that Sony decided to settle one of the cases. Previously, a class-action lawsuit, "Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment," alleged that the company violated antitrust laws.

The plaintiffs noted that Sony "unlawfully eliminated competition and monopolized the market for [its] digital games" by discontinuing the sale of vouchers (activation codes) for certain games, which allowed PlayStation console owners to purchase digital versions of games from other online stores. The plaintiffs believe that the elimination of competition deprived them of the opportunity to buy games at more favorable prices.

Now Sony will pay $7.85 million in compensation: the funds will be credited to players' PlayStation Network wallets after the final hearing.

There's a catch: only PlayStation players residing in the USA will be eligible for this payment. The court hearing is scheduled for mid-November of this year.

Sony continues to face lawsuits. Recently, players' attention was drawn to a statement by lawyers: during the proceedings, he explained why buyers cannot own digital versions of games.

This statement came amidst Sony's move away from physical versions of PlayStation games. Some disgruntled users are trying to boycott, but so far the company has not reconsidered its decision.
