The development of the remake of the first part of The Witcher has been effectively suspended due to technical dependencies related to future CD Projekt Red projects. This was stated by the co-CEO of the company, Michał Nowakowski, in an interview with The Game Business.
According to the head of CD Projekt RED, initially, Fool's Theory studio was supposed to work specifically on the remake of the first game in the series. However, during the work, it became clear that the project required more time due to certain technological dependencies related to The Witcher 4.
This likely refers to Unreal Engine 5 technologies, to which the Polish company switched after abandoning its own RED Engine. Unreal Engine 5 will become the technological basis for The Witcher 4 and subsequent CD Projekt Red games.
At the same time, Nowakowski emphasized that the transition to Epic Games' engine should not lead to new studio projects looking like typical Unreal Engine games.
