All is not calm in Starfleet: First details of new "Star Trek" film revealed
The directors of "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" want to attract viewers who were not previously interested in the franchise.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have revealed the first details of the new "Star Trek" film. The directors of "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" are preparing a thriller that aims to go beyond the usual franchise formula and engage viewers unfamiliar with it.
"We're less concerned with what continuity or timeline it belongs to. We're more interested in how to attract viewers who don't consider themselves Trekkies. What can we do that hasn't been done in the franchise before?"
According to Daley and Goldstein, the story will focus on Starfleet and depict a crisis within the organization. The creators cite "Training Day" and "Crimson Tide" as key inspirations. The first film told the story of a young police officer who encounters corruption within his own unit. The second focused on a conflict over command of a nuclear submarine during a crisis.
Daley and Goldstein will serve as screenwriters, directors, and producers for the project. Paramount hopes to launch a new branch of the franchise with the film, which will not be connected to the stories of Captain Kirk as played by Chris Pine.
The project currently has no announced cast, production timeline, or premiere date.
