Sony Pictures presented a full excerpt from the new "Resident Evil" during the State of Play presentation. The show featured the full version of a scene in which medical courier Brian, played by Austin Abrams, runs down the street while infected bodies fall and explode around him.
Zach Cregger used practical effects when creating the episode. Instead of fully digital bodies, the film crew dropped heavy bags filled with artificial blood from cranes. One such bag, weighing about 68 kilograms, went off prematurely and fell just a few centimeters from Abrams. Filming almost ended in tragedy, but, as Cregger said, this very take made it into the final cut. Now viewers can try to find that very bag in the published excerpt.
In addition to Austin Abrams, the cast includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Paul Walter Hauser, and Jonno Wilson. Cregger wrote the script with Shay Hatten. The premiere will take place on September 18, 2026.
