Dan Stevens, cast as Alex Murphy in the "RoboCop" series for Prime Video, spoke about which features of the original film he wants to preserve in the new version. The actor called Paul Verhoeven's film one of his favorites and particularly highlighted the combination of uncompromising brutality and satire:
"For me and many of my friends, it was a cult film, perhaps one of the first encounters with both extreme violence and satire. These are the elements I most hope to preserve."
The series is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video. Peter Ocko, who worked on "Lodge 49," "Pushing Daisies," and "The Office," will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.
Blumhouse Atomic Monster will handle production, with James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett involved. The screenwriters of the original 1987 "RoboCop," Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, have also joined the project as executive producers.
The premiere date for the series has not yet been announced.
