Ridley Scott still considers the original 1979 "Alien" to be the best film in the franchise. In an interview with Brut, the director recalled the series' subsequent fate and stated that after "Alien Resurrection," it effectively died, so he decided to personally bring it back to life:
"I made the best film, period. End of the damn story. Then the series was allowed to die. After the fourth part, it was killed, and I thought: 'I'll bring it back'."
Scott's return resulted in "Prometheus" (2012) and "Alien: Covenant" (2017). A third film about the android David, played by Michael Fassbender, is currently in development, but project details and the premiere date have not yet been announced.
