Call of Duty developers admitted that the RICOCHET anti-cheat system experienced a false positive, which resulted in professional scene legend FormaL receiving a permanent ban right during the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta test stream.
The ban was issued during a stream, which quickly attracted the attention of players and the community. Developers soon lifted the ban and began an investigation into the incident.
Now the Call of Duty team has revealed the cause of the incident. According to them, the RICOCHET systems in the beta version of the game flagged FormaL's account due to a unique coincidence between several independent detection mechanisms. In other words, the anti-cheat mistakenly interpreted the results of various checks as sufficient grounds for blocking the account.
The developers also stated that the underlying bug has already been fixed. At the same time, the team emphasized that the beta version itself is a test not only for players but also for developers: specialists continue to adjust the system's thresholds and analyze the results obtained.
