DLSS 5 runs on AMD despite NVIDIA's restrictions. The future of consoles just got more interesting

Enthusiasts have unofficially launched DLSS 5 on AMD Radeon graphics cards, hinting at the possible appearance of similar upscaling technologies on future PS6 and Xbox Helix consoles.

DLSS 5-level technology may appear on PS6 and Xbox Helix in the future – enthusiasts have already unofficially launched DLSS 5 on an AMD graphics card.

Blogger Ancient Gameplays reported that the modification indeed allows the use of DLSS 5 on AMD GPUs, although performance is still extremely low. On a Radeon RX 9070 XT, only about 12 frames per second were achieved, so it's impossible to properly evaluate the result.

The DLSS-NR on AMD project is available on GitHub. The authors claim that in the new version they achieved 28 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 on an RX 9070 XT at 1080p resolution.

Now much depends on AMD. In the next generation of RDNA 5 graphics cards, the company will likely try to compete with NVIDIA and offer its own technology of this type. The release of new GPUs is not expected before 2028.
