Mortal Shell II developers addressed players in Russian - introduced an update with adaptive difficulty and improved parrying

News

In August, Cold Symmetry and Playstack studios released Mortal Shell II on consoles and PC. The developers studied feedback and began releasing patches.

In early September, they introduced a major update and published an address to the community – it is also available in Russian. The authors talked about "adaptive difficulty," which was added to the game as an optional setting.

The idea is that "adaptive difficulty" will adjust the strength of enemies to the specific user's playstyle – making it easier or harder:

It works both ways, reacting to who you defeat and where you die. Any adjustment weakens over time on its own, so the game returns to its standard balance as soon as your playstyle changes. By default, the setting is off, and you can turn it on or off at any time in Game > Game Settings > Adaptive Difficulty.

If the player starts winning, enemies will receive a bonus to damage, stagger resistance, and health. After a series of victories, enemies "will become noticeably stronger than the maximum the game was originally designed for" and their characteristics will continue to increase as long as the player wins. Enemy weakening occurs across these same three characteristics.

In addition, the developers talked about improving the parrying mechanic. Now, consecutive parries with the "Infinite Seal" have a wider window in the wind-up animation, allowing players to deflect a series of incoming attacks, not just the first one.

Furthermore, status effects can now be applied to enemies while they are getting up after a counter-attack.

The developers also made various balance adjustments. The full description of the September update for Mortal Shell II is available at the following link.
