"Rockstar won't like this": Blogger shows GTA III remake on GTA IV engine

Recently, a couple of videos by a modder under the nickname NokronDweller went viral in the Grand Theft Auto fan community. He published gameplay of his project called "GTA IV (GTA 3 PROJECT)" on his YouTube channel of the same name.

He recreates the classic Grand Theft Auto III on the engine of the newer GTA IV. The videos he presented show a stylized main menu and alternative art with GTA III characters.

Currently, his video diaries cover the early part of GTA III: from the escape scene on the bridge to meeting the first employers. This version uses the main mechanics from GTA IV, including a radar with GPS that indicates the route to the desired point.

NokronDweller recreates both the missions themselves and their cutscenes. Players fear that "Rockstar won't like this" and lawyers may soon demand the project be shut down. The modder himself did not go into implementation details and has not yet published the files for public access.

Grand Theft Auto IV is still popular to this day. Various mods are released for it, including an actively developing unofficial remaster – recently, the sensational NVIDIA DLSS 5 library reached it, and DLSS RR 4.5 (Ray Reconstruction) also became available.
