Valheim Creator Explains Why Developers Are Not Planning a Sequel After Early Access Release

News

Valheim spent several years in Steam Early Access. This month, the creators of the popular survival game are preparing for the full release of version 1.0.

In an interview with PCGamesN, the developers confirmed that they do not plan to make a sequel in the future — there will be no hypothetical Valheim 2. Creative director Robin Eyre said that he had previously surveyed the community about a potential sequel:

About a year ago, I started asking the community on social media about a “Valheim sequel,” and many agreed on the following: Valheim 2 could be cool, but what people want most is more content for Valheim.

Eyre reminded that during Valheim's development in early access, many updates were released. Some improvements appeared due to player feedback and were not part of the original plans:

We never thought we would do a combat system update, but it came about because of community requests. It wasn't in our plans at all.

The developers believe that the original Valheim has room for new ideas and expansion of existing ones, and a sequel is not necessary.
