Remedy explained why it decided to turn CONTROL Resonant into an action RPG

CONTROL Resonant Senior Level Designer Ari Makkonen spoke about the key features of the upcoming game and explained why Remedy decided to change the genre of the series.

According to Makkonen, turning CONTROL into a full-fledged action RPG was done primarily for greater player freedom. The developers want to provide users with as many options as possible for how to play the game and develop the main character.

In CONTROL Resonant, players will be able to switch between various unlockable Aberrant forms, gain new paranatural abilities after defeating bosses, and use a talent tree and artifacts. Almost all character development elements can be freely reallocated.

However, it will not be possible to obtain all abilities in a single playthrough. This is why Remedy added a New Game+ mode, which will allow players to continue experimenting with already unlocked abilities and collect significantly more development options.

Makkonen also spoke about the structure of the Manhattan version in CONTROL Resonant. Despite the large size of the game world, the developers are not creating a traditional open world. Instead, the city is divided into interconnected zones, each with its own fixed time of day and weather conditions.

There will be no full day-night cycle in the game – this is a conscious decision by Remedy. This way, each location retains its given atmosphere, and the developers gain greater control over what happens in specific areas.
