Infinity Ward has unveiled a massive update for the DMZ mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The developers intend to significantly expand the formula of the original mode by adding full-fledged story missions, a base development system, and a multitude of dynamic threats.
The updated DMZ will take place in the Khajin Exclusion Zone – one of the largest locations ever created for the Call of Duty series.
One of the key innovations will be story missions and dynamic operations. In addition, players will have their own base, which can be upgraded and developed as they progress.
The resource extraction system will also change significantly. Modern Warfare 4 will feature crafting using a 3D printer, and weapons will have a condition system. Players will be able to find rare weapon variants that will differ from standard models.
Equally serious changes will affect artificial intelligence. Khajin will be patrolled by smarter enemies, and convoys, tanks, and helicopters will appear on the map. Dynamic weather and zones with various dangerous conditions will create additional hazards.
At the same time, the threat will gradually increase depending on the squad's actions. The more attention players attract, the more serious forces will be sent to hunt them down. Ultimately, juggernauts, lieutenants, and elite strike teams will be able to confront the squad.
For PvP, a separate system of bounties for players' heads and a Bounty leaderboard are provided. Thus, successful squads will not only be able to extract valuable resources but also become priority targets for other players.
Another important innovation will be the MIA Operator system. In case of death, an operator will not necessarily be permanently lost: the character can receive MIA status, after which squadmates can go in search of them and try to retrieve them along with their accumulated progress.
Finally, Infinity Ward has reworked proximity chat, adding an improved voice direction detection system. This should make interaction between players and pinpointing enemy locations by sound more convenient.
