Ubisoft did not support Xbox's player-favorite initiative to convert physical licenses to digital

Square Enix also opted out, apparently.

Users have discovered that major publishers Ubisoft and Square Enix are not yet participating in the new Xbox Disc to Digital program, which allows owners of physical game copies to enjoy the benefits of an Xbox digital license while retaining the disc itself. Although some players were skeptical of the initiative, many received it positively.

Microsoft launched testing of the program among Xbox Insiders participants on August 31.

According to users online, when installing a disc with some Ubisoft games into an Xbox console, a message appears: "Digital license unavailable." The system then clarifies that the specific game is not participating in the digital licensing program.

A similar situation is observed with Square Enix games. Owners of physical copies report the same notification when trying to use the Disc to Digital features.

However, neither Ubisoft nor Square Enix have officially explained their absence from the program yet. There have also been unconfirmed reports that other major publishers may opt out, but there is no reliable information on this yet.
