European developers fear AI will make them work faster and release more games

News 0

According to the Talent Signals Reshaping the Games Industry study, 61% of European specialists fear that AI will lead to the need to work faster and release more games.

At the same time, only 35% of respondents believe that the spread of AI could lead to a decrease in demand for their profession or a complete loss of their job. The study was prepared by Tanya Loktionova, founder of Values Value and co-founder of InGame Job, based on data from the tenth annual Big Games Industry Employment Survey. The full report is expected in November 2026.

AI has already impacted the workflows of 78% of respondents: 33% noted significant changes, and another 45% noted partial changes. Only 22% stated that their work has not changed at all.

At the same time, more than half of developers fear that the use of generative AI could negatively affect the quality of work, and 46% believe that AI makes it more difficult to objectively assess the real skills of specialists. However, ethical issues concern developers significantly less: 29% of participants reported them, while 12% see no cause for concern in AI at all.

Among executives, the situation looks even more telling. 35% of company founders have already refused to hire employees because, in their opinion, AI tools are capable of performing the necessary tasks. At the same time, 48% of founders stated that their companies are currently operating at a loss, and 60% intentionally maintain small teams.

The survey also shows that the industry has not yet reached a consensus on the long-term impact of AI on employment. 36% believe that technology will primarily change existing positions rather than reduce the number of employees. 33% expect further reductions in team sizes, while 14% anticipate an increase in individual productivity due to AI. Another 17% do not expect staff reductions.

Similar sentiments were previously demonstrated by the annual Gamescom Dev speakers' survey: 83% of participants stated that generative AI would impact team structure or performance.
