MagicX announced that the development of the Mini Dream handheld console has entered its second phase. At the same time, the team is currently exploring the possibility of creating a handheld device called Pocket Dream.
The new device features the same custom 3.3-inch OLED display and basic configuration as the Mini Dream, but is designed in a vertical form factor. This solution is intended to offer a completely different user experience compared to the horizontal Mini Dream.
According to MagicX, the vertical grip evokes nostalgia for classic handheld consoles (Game Boy, WonderSwan, and the like), and the new device will be suitable for use on public transport, short gaming sessions, or situations where you want to quickly turn on the device and play your favorite games.
The Pocket Dream measures 107 × 72 × 22 mm. It also offers the same four SoC options as the Mini Dream (including versions for both Linux and Android).
The Pocket Dream's controls emphasize the sticks, which are located above the D-pad and buttons. Users can only hope that the choice of such a layout with two analog sticks will not lead to inconvenience during retro gaming.
As is usually the case with MagicX devices, there is a possibility that the design may still change depending on community feedback. There is also a chance that the Pocket Dream may never see the light of day.
