DLSS 5 can be accelerated by 45% right now - gamers found a way

Enthusiasts modified an unofficial implementation of DLSS 5, making the neural network rendering process the frame before upscaling, rather than after.

DLSS 5 can get a performance boost of up to 45% thanks to fan modifications that allow the technology to work with the frame before upscaling, although image quality is slightly reduced.

The main drawback of DLSS 5 is considered to be its operation with a full-sized frame after image reconstruction. Modders managed to change this principle using the "DLSS 5 Optiscaler Swapchain fixes" modification, available on GitHub, and achieve a performance increase of up to 45% on NVIDIA RTX graphics cards.

The image quality, however, is inferior to NVIDIA's official implementation. Nevertheless, such an approach could become a direction for future optimization of the technology. NVIDIA has already announced a major DLSS 5 update in autumn 2026. In six months, the company managed to increase the technology's performance by 500%: the first demonstration ran on two RTX 5090s simultaneously. Official support for RTX 40 graphics cards is also being prepared.
