PlayStation dropped PHYSINT - Kojima's game was picked up by Xbox

PlayStation Studios dropped PHYSINT, after which Kojima Productions transferred the project to Xbox, continuing game development with Microsoft.

PHYSINT was supposed to be one of PlayStation's most important projects and Hideo Kojima's new spy action game, which was associated with the next generation of Sony consoles. Now PlayStation Studios has confirmed the termination of cooperation:

Update from PlayStation Studios: After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue our collaboration with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on the PHYSINT project. We continue to have immense admiration for Hideo Kojima's vision for this game.
Our relationship remains strong after three decades of industry-leading creative collaboration, setting new standards for genres, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with Hideo Kojima and his multi-award-winning independent studio in the future.

Kojima Productions immediately announced that PHYSINT would continue development with Xbox. Kojima clarified that Sony was the one who abandoned the project: in mid-June, the studio received an unexpected cancellation notice. For the past three months, the team had been looking for a new partner, after which they chose Microsoft.

Rest assured, work on PHYSINT, our action and spy game designed to redefine the genre, is ongoing and will continue.

The head of Xbox also called the collaboration an important moment:

PHYSINT and OD! Proud to be creating both games with @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN in Japan. A great moment for XBOX.
