Valve, through Russian lawyers, sent a claim to a CS2 skin-changing platform - the project closed down
Valve Corporation, through the law firm "Melling, Voitiskin and Partners," sent an official claim to a Russian platform for changing skins, demanding an immediate cessation of the infringement of exclusive rights to software, the design of weapon, knife, and glove skins, as well as the company's trademarks.
Skin changers do not affect the actual Steam inventory; they only replace the visual appearance of weapons locally on the player's computer, bringing no profit to Valve from the use of its assets.
In the document dated September 1, 2026, the lawyers indicate that the infringements are deliberate and ongoing, and warn that in case of refusal to comply with Valve's demands, the company will go to court for compensation, as well as to law enforcement agencies to check for signs of a crime.
The platform's team responded to the claim with a letter to subscribers, announcing the closure of the project.
We received a claim from representatives of Valve Corporation in Russia demanding the cessation of the website and software operations. To our deep regret, there is no choice – the team decided to close the project.
The creators of the platform thanked users for two years of support.
This is the first known case where Valve has achieved the cessation of a third-party skin-related service specifically through Russian legal representatives amidst the sanctions restrictions in effect since 2022.
