Resident Evil 2 Remake Sets New Record for Capcom

Resident Evil 2 Remake has surpassed 20 million players, becoming Capcom's second most successful game after Monster Hunter World.

The Resident Evil 2 remake was released in 2019 and continues to gain audience years after its release. Capcom previously reported 19.7 million copies sold as of June 30, and has now announced over 20 million players.

The availability of the game on Game Pass and other access methods may have influenced this figure, which is why Capcom used the phrasing “players” rather than “sales.” However, the game maintains a steady pace and is capable of exceeding 20 million copies sold in the future.

An additional boost could come from the Nintendo Switch 2 version, which will be released on October 16, 2026. The success of the remake also confirms the demand for major re-imaginings of classic games.

Next in Capcom's strategy will be Resident Evil Code: Veronica, scheduled for release in 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Switch 2. In one month, the game has accumulated over 2 million wishlist additions.
