After 30 years, Resident Evil has been turned into a cooperative horror game

News

The original Resident Evil, decades later, continues to attract ordinary players, as well as modders who offer various ways to improve and transform the game. Recently, one enthusiast talked about a mod that aims to add a full-fledged cooperative game mode to the classic survival horror.

Modder Aydan addressed players and published an example of gameplay:

Long time no see. Well, with the recent release of Resident Evil Decomp, I decided to play around with it a bit... I'm currently working on adding a VERY simple online co-op as a "proof of concept." So far, clients [players] connect to each other and exchange packets...

Initially, Aydan only showed a screenshot, but soon published a short video demonstrating the co-op in Resident Evil — it really works successfully. One player acts as the host, and the other is a client connecting to the system. They can move independently, meaning nothing prevents them from being in two different rooms.

You can view an example of co-op mode tests at the following link.

A full implementation of the cooperative mode for Resident Evil is still far off — this is just an early version of the concept.
