Diablo IV will feature Echo of Diablo, Splinters of Evil, and Nightmares Made Real - details of the Season of Hell's Legacy

Familiar locations, enemies, and items will soon appear in Diablo IV.

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed details about the upcoming 15th season of Diablo IV, titled Hell's Legacy.

In this season, players will have to defeat the Echo of Diablo in the catacombs of Tristram Cathedral, the Echo of Baal on the summit of Mount Arreat, and the Echo of Mephisto in the Durance of Hate. Completing the seasonal questline will grant fragments of their powers — three Splinters of Evil.

Depending on the chosen splinter, different powers will manifest in combat: Diablo's power deals fire damage, Baal's power deals cold damage, and Mephisto's power deals physical damage. Additionally, the splinter will make the character vulnerable to its embodiment of the Prime Evil.

Each splinter has 8 task modifiers and 6 legendary power upgrades:

  • Diablo's Splinter of Terror affects Helltides and infernal hordes.
  • Baal's Splinter of Destruction affects the Underworld and bosses in lairs.
  • Mephisto's Splinter of Hatred affects The Pit and Nightmare Dungeons.
  • All three splinters affect the Whispering Tree.

Only one soul splinter can be used, but it can be changed. To choose the reputation and rewards of another embodiment of the Prime Evil, the player needs to find another splinter in one of the "greatest nightmares made real."

"Nightmares Made Real" are special events that come in three types. Within these events, players will encounter old enemies and see familiar locations:

  • "Greatest Nightmares Made Real" are multi-level main dungeons that recreate historical battles with embodiments of the Prime Evils: "You will first discover them during the seasonal questline, and then you can replay them on Torment difficulty for rewards."
  • "Nightmares Made Real" will also be presented as standard dungeons recreating levels from previous games. As an example, the developers cited the Den of Evil from Diablo II. They are located in specific places around the world, just like regular dungeons.
  • The smallest "nightmares made real" will appear randomly in the open world: upon entering them, the player will be transported to a hall where they will fight a boss from the past or have to fend off waves of familiar monsters.

Diablo IV developers will implement shared War Plans progress, and add two Horadric Cube recipes to help modify items — dealing with unwanted properties and preserving desired ones.  In addition, nine unique items based on legendary relics of the past will be introduced; and a new "Rebirth System" will allow converting Eternal characters into Seasonal ones.

A full description of the features of the 15th "Season of Hell's Legacy" is available at the following link. The launch is expected on September 15.
