Bandai Namco has revealed the release window for the anime Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO — the premiere of the new series in the franchise will take place in April 2027.
XARX-ZERO will be a prequel to the mech-action RPG Gundam Rogue Orbit and will tell the story of events that occurred approximately one hundred years before the game. However, Gundam Rogue Orbit itself will be released before the anime: its release is scheduled for March 5, 2027.
In the world of XARX-ZERO, a mysterious interstellar object granted humanity technologies for gravity control, faster-than-light communication, and cognitive materialization, but less than ten years later, it went out of control and spawned an aggressive, self-replicating ecosystem called "Apocalypse." After three months of fighting, humans had to abandon Earth and relocate to the Moon and space colonies.
The main events will begin 44 years later. The story will center on Rei Azumi, who lost his parents during an "Apocalypse" attack. He will become the pilot of Gundam Zero, the latest experimental mobile suit created to fight the tyranny of "Apocalypse."
XARX-ZERO is being produced by SOLA ANIMATION, with planning by Sunrise. The series will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama, director of "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex," who is also responsible for the series composition. The sci-fi concept is supervised by writer Toh EnJoe, Gundam Zero's design was developed by Eiichi Shimizu, and the music was composed by Go Shiina.
