Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey" has become the highest-grossing film in Universal Pictures' history. In eight weeks, the film's global box office reached $1.684 billion, allowing it to surpass "Jurassic World," which earned approximately $1.677 billion in 2015.
Of the total, $600.5 million came from North America, and the film collected another $1.084 billion in other countries. In addition, "Odyssey" became Nolan's highest-grossing film in the domestic market and the highest-grossing R-rated release in history, surpassing "Deadpool & Wolverine" with $1.33 billion.
Previously, "Odyssey" also achieved the best international and global opening in Nolan's career. In the US, the film earned $123.5 million on its opening weekend, setting a record among Universal's R-rated releases, and IMAX 70mm screenings brought in a record $6.3 million.
Meanwhile, the theatrical run of "Odyssey" is still ongoing, so its lead over "Jurassic World" will continue to grow.
