Blizzard officially unveiled the Diablo adaptation eight years after the first rumors
The first reports of an animated series appeared back in 2018.
Blizzard has confirmed the development of an animated series in the Diablo universe in collaboration with Netflix. Blizzard President Johanna Faries has so far only announced the project, without revealing any details:
"A new animated series in the Diablo universe is in development with Netflix. We will share more details later, but this is just the beginning."
The first reports of such a project appeared eight years ago, in 2018. At that time, "Hellboy" screenwriter and Boom! Studios co-founder Andrew Cosby said he was in final negotiations to work on a Netflix series as a writer and showrunner, but no official announcement from Blizzard followed then.
In 2020, former Activision Blizzard Studios co-president Nick van Dyk spoke about the project again. According to him, the Diablo animated series was in pre-production. After that, there was almost no news about the adaptation. It is currently unknown whether the current series is related to the project reported several years ago, and whether Cosby is still involved in its development. We have to wait for official details.
