CD Projekt does not consider The Witcher 3 an untouchable classic. Marcin Blacha, the company's Vice President of Narrative, who was the lead writer for the third installment and oversaw the story of both expansions, stated that for him, the game is not some untouchable monument.
According to him, even now, returning to the game, he notices moments that, with the accumulated experience, he would have done differently.
The writer believes that creating a new expansion should not be perceived as impossible. On the contrary, the opportunity to write a story again that organically fits not only into the original game but also into Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine evokes positive emotions in him and reminds him of a kind of time machine, taking him back ten years.
Blacha also spoke about which elements of The Witcher 3 he would change today. Some characters, in his opinion, would deserve more subtle development. In particular, he would make Dandelion a little wiser and more supportive of Geralt, rather than just a source of comedic situations. Additionally, the writer would like to add more choices and consequences to Geralt's relationships with the world around him.
At the same time, Blacha admits that such a view does not necessarily indicate shortcomings of the game itself. He himself has changed over ten years, so some scenes are perceived differently today.
