Valve has not abandoned plans to release the next generation of the Steam Deck handheld PC. Company developers Pierre-Loup Griffais and Jeff Leinbaugh confirmed in an interview with IGN that work on Steam Deck 2 is ongoing, and problems with RAM prices have not yet affected the company's plans.
Griffais noted that Valve still adheres to the same approach to creating a new version of the device. According to the developer, Steam Deck 2 should provide a sufficiently noticeable performance increase compared to the original model for the update to truly make sense.
He added that the company continues to monitor current market conditions and is evaluating when it can release the device. At the same time, Valve's goals for Steam Deck 2 remain roughly the same as before: it's not just about a new generation of hardware, but about improving the user experience and creating a product with significantly higher performance.
