Empire magazine has published the first exclusive image of Aslan from the upcoming film "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew". In the new version, the mythical lion has eyes of different colors – blue and orange – and his muzzle is covered with bright red stripes.
The film is based on C.S. Lewis's novel "The Magician's Nephew", which tells the story of the creation of Narnia and the first events in the history of the magical world. The director is Greta Gerwig, known for the film "Barbie". The main roles are played by David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell. The film also stars Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, and Meryl Streep, who will voice Aslan. The music was composed by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who previously worked with Gerwig on "Barbie".
According to cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, the film's budget was $280 million, so Netflix is betting big on the project – the film will be the service's first to receive a full wide theatrical release.
"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" will be released in cinemas on February 12, 2027, and on Netflix only on April 2 – 49 days after the start of its theatrical run.
