DLSS 5 Turns Old Games into Nearly Modern Ones - UNCANNY Revealed

UNCANNY uses Neural Rendering from DLSS 5 to update the graphics of old games in real-time, and the technology already works with the PlayStation 2 emulator.

The UNCANNY project is being created as a universal engine for remastering PC games and projects through emulators. Instead of separate mods for each game, UNCANNY adds an image processing layer during project operation. Author imissanyway has released the first public alpha version.

One of the main platforms is PCSX2, and the engine itself also works with modern PC games. UNCANNY uses its own image reconstruction with modes from 1 to 3, ghosting protection, and integration with DLSS 5 Neural Rendering.

Of particular interest is REVENANT – an experimental part of the project for reconstructing and replacing game assets. In tests with 007: From Russia with Love and BLACK via PCSX2, as well as modern PC games, changes in facial detail, materials, and lighting are noticeable.

However, the project is in an early alpha testing stage. The author notes problems with the compatibility of older DirectX versions and the stability of Neural Rendering, and the current version is primarily designed for NVIDIA RTX graphics cards.

If UNCANNY continues to develop, old games in the future could receive a significant visual update without an official remaster.
