Zack Snyder clarified the situation with the director's cut of "Sucker Punch". In Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, the filmmaker confirmed that he still intends to release an alternative version of the film, but legal restrictions are currently preventing him from doing so.
According to Snyder, the problem is related to existing licensing agreements for showing "Sucker Punch" on streaming services and television. Warner Bros. has to wait for these contracts to expire, as the appearance of another version of the film could reduce the commercial value of already sold rights. The director emphasized that the new cut is "definitely in the plans," and to complete it, he intends to re-record audio tracks with the original cast.
"Sucker Punch" tells the story of a girl nicknamed Babydoll, played by Emily Browning, who ends up in a psychiatric clinic and plunges into a fictional world where, along with other patients, she fights for freedom. Despite its box office failure — the film grossed just under $90 million against a budget of $82 million — the picture eventually gained cult status.
