Juliet Starling to Hit the Big Screen - Lollipop Chainsaw Film in the Works
The adaptation will be a prequel to the original Grasshopper Manufacture game.
Dragami Games has announced a live-action feature film adaptation of the cult action game Lollipop Chainsaw. The movie will be a prequel to the original 2012 game.
The main character will once again be Juliet Starling — a cheerleader from San Romero High School, raised in a family of hereditary zombie hunters. After a sudden virus outbreak, the girl takes up a chainsaw to save her friends and keep her boyfriend Nick alive, using "extremely unconventional methods."
An international team of producers is working on the film, including Joe Tan, Robert Franke, Takafumi Yuki, Kirk Shaw, and Patricio Rabuffetti. The creators promise to preserve the audacity, absurdity, and excessive madness of the original, making it an R-rated project.
"We are creating a film that will retain the spirit of Lollipop Chainsaw while also being able to exist as a standalone work. Fans will recognize the beloved irreverence and glorious chaos, and new viewers will get a vibrant comedy with elements of action and horror."
The director, cast, and filming schedule have not yet been disclosed. Along with the film, an anime adaptation and a full-fledged sequel, Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back for PlayStation 5, are in development, led by Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata.
