Modder Improves Dark Souls III Graphics - Shows Gameplay with Path Tracing and DLSS 5
Work on the modification is gradually progressing.
Modder Ganaboy, known for "DS2 Lighting Engine," is working on a similar project for Dark Souls III.
He is adding path tracing and the highly anticipated NVIDIA DLSS 5 technology to Dark Souls III. A small gameplay example of DS III with this modification has been published online. Ganaboy walked through the Crucifixion Woods location.
Dark Souls III was run on a PC with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, a GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card, and 16 GB of RAM. The game ran at 1440p resolution, with NVIDIA DLSS upscaler set to Quality.
The modder explained that in NVIDIA DLSS 5, "pre-upscaling is performed using NRD to remove noise." According to Ganaboy, this makes the technology require fewer computational resources. Then, the image processed with NR (neural rendering) is upscaled using DLSS-SR (Super Resolution).

The performance of the Dark Souls III modification should be similar to "DS2 Lighting Engine." The project size is expected to be around 3-4 GB.
Currently, the mod does not have a specific release date: Ganaboy plans to release it by the end of 2026.
