The story is set in the Meiji era. Satoko Kirigaya, the daughter of a noble family, is renowned for her beauty, but due to a severe illness, she doesn't have long to live. The girl hopes to marry a worthy man and repay her family for their care.
However, her life takes a drastic turn after she is kidnapped. On the verge of death, Satoko meets the assassin Shinpei Goto and offers him marriage in exchange for salvation. But the man takes her words literally and begins to treat the girl as his true fiancée.
The production is handled by david production studio, known for the anime "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" and "Urusei Yatsura." Takahiro Kamei serves as the director, Yuko Kakihara is in charge of the script, and Yukiko Aikei is designing the characters.
The original manga "Firefly Wedding" was serialized from 2023 to 2026 in the Manga ONE app and concluded with 11 volumes. The series has sold over four million copies.
