Recently, the Embark Studios team reminded players about The Finals. A major update is being prepared for the free-to-play online shooter.
Players are promised a “new chapter.” In the published address, The Finals developers announced the launch date for the next season – October 20:
We used to work season by season. However, this year we decided to change our approach. Instead of treating each season as a separate project, we set a single, ambitious goal for the entire year: to improve existing game elements and develop the features that define The Finals.
The longer development period allowed Embark Studios to tackle tasks that cannot be effectively completed within a three-month cycle:
This allowed us to delve deeper into existing game elements, and also invest more effort into large and complex systems that require additional time to bring them to the desired level. And although each season brings new content, the main part of our efforts has been aimed at deepening the overall gaming experience.
The authors of The Finals noted that they are implementing changes to old arenas (maps) – improving lighting and materials. In addition, the October update will include a refined destruction system. Currently, an environmental element usually either remains intact or is completely destroyed, but in the updated system, “parts of the structure upon destruction can remain partially connected; this causes floors to sag, walls to tilt, and buildings to collapse in more varied ways.”
Embark Studios is also currently preparing an update for Arc Raiders. The Frozen Trail update is also planned for release next month.
