Sony has patented a technology that could allow PS5 owners to use the DualSense controller to make payments. The corresponding patent was discovered by Patentlyze.
According to the description, the controller will be able to act as an intermediary between the console and the user's smartphone. To make a purchase, it will be enough to bring the smartphone close to the DualSense, after which a payment confirmation request will appear on the phone. After the transaction is completed, information about the purchase will be transmitted to the PlayStation.
The patent materials also include a diagram suggesting the use of a bank card. The user can bring it close to the controller to purchase a gift card.
Such a system could be useful for players who do not have bank card details or other payment methods saved on their console. In this case, DualSense will effectively be used to transfer payment information from a smartphone to the PS5 without the need to manually enter details on the console.
