A Reddit user reported the failure of an MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G VENTUS 3X graphics card. According to the unfortunate user, the graphics accelerator worked stably for about a month in Grand Theft Auto 5 with various visual modifications, but problems began after experimenting with DLSS 5.
The experimenter said that on the second day of testing, he launched the game with ultra settings. Approximately five minutes after the load began, the image was covered with graphical artifacts, after which the system completely froze. The computer stopped responding to peripheral devices.
Subsequent diagnostics showed that the PC still booted when using the integrated graphics of the processor, while the discrete RTX 5080 was no longer detected by the motherboard. Thus, according to the user, the video card actually completely failed.
The experimenter claims that he never engaged in manual overclocking of components and relied on the video card's built-in protection systems against overheating and excessive power consumption. As a result, MSI replaced the faulty accelerator under warranty.
After the incident, the user himself decided to abandon further experiments with generative rendering technologies until a more optimized version of the technology appeared.
In the Reddit discussion, users put forward several versions of what happened. Possible causes included both faulty power supply components and a hardware failure of the video card itself due to high load.
