Shift Up Boss Apologizes for AI-Generated Clip with Stellar Blade: Blood Rain Heroine
Developers intend to regain players' trust.
The debut trailer for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain attracted a lot of attention to the project. However, the developers then found themselves at the epicenter of a PR scandal. Shift Up studio suddenly published a music video featuring the main character, but the video was created using AI.
As a result, the creators of Stellar Blade: Blood Rain were attacked by opponents of artificial intelligence. The new game was quickly labeled as "AI slop" — some users decided that the game itself would also be "generated".
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, Shift Up boss Hyung-Tae Kim gave an interview and apologized for this AI clip. He explained that this video was one of the experiments with AI technologies:
As part of AI Labs, we conducted experiments and research related to various applications of AI. We thought the result was quite good, and in the end, we released as "official content" what should have remained within the framework of an experiment. The game hasn't even been released yet, and players saw such experimental materials on official channels. It seems this disappointed them. I am truly sorry that we were unable to properly distinguish between main content and our internal experiments.
Hyung-Tae Kim said that Shift Up studio plans to re-engage players with their project. The developers are going to demonstrate the gameplay of Stellar Blade: Blood Rain:
I apologize to everyone who did not like this content [AI clip]. In the future, I want to provide players with quality game content. Ultimately, we believe that demonstrating pure gameplay is our main value, so we will attract players precisely through gameplay.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain does not yet have a specific release date or window. The studio does not plan to abandon AI, but now Shift Up will separate its experiments and main content.
