GTA IV received DLSS, FSR, and HDR support thanks to a modder
With the mod, the game performs better than without modifications.
Many years later, Grand Theft Auto IV continues to be actively supported by modders. Recently, an enthusiast under the nickname ChunkLeChuck introduced a project that adds support for several modern technologies to the Rockstar Games title.
GTA IV fans will be able to appreciate not only native NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR support — native HDR is now also available in the game:
This is a true HDR signal, natively implemented to highlight the bright moments that have always been in the game. GTA IV always had issues with jagged edges, but now they are gone. Built-in DLSS and FSR technologies, based on individual motion vectors for each object, will smooth the image, maintaining or even improving performance.
According to ChunkLeChuck, DLSS will work on NVIDIA RTX 20 series graphics cards or newer, AMD FSR 3.1 — on any models, and AMD FSR 4 — on Radeon RX 9000 and RX 7000.
According to his tests, the game runs “faster than without any mods at all.” In 4K resolution with maximum settings, the “Quality” mode showed 3.5% better performance than without mods.
The “DLSS-IV” modification for Grand Theft Auto IV is distributed for free via Nexus Mods.
