With the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season One, Call of Duty: Warzone will introduce a new feature that will allow players to independently choose which operators they want to see during matches. Developers will add a special Operator Skin Toggle switch, designed for those who prefer Warzone to visually match the current installment of the series.
In recent years, Warzone has evolved into a unified platform, bringing together operators, weapons, and other content from several recent Call of Duty games. This approach allows players to use previously earned and purchased items, but at the same time leads to characters from different eras and parts of the series appearing in the same match.
The new filter is designed to solve this problem without removing old content from the game. The switch will only work on the player's side and will not affect how their operator or another user's operator appears to others.
If the feature is enabled, instead of an operator from another game, such as Black Ops 6, the player will see an operator from Modern Warfare 4. This applies to opponents, squad members, teammates, and lobby participants. At the same time, the player's own selected operator will not change — it will continue to be displayed in the chosen appearance, even if it belongs to a previous Call of Duty installment.
The feature will be disabled by default, so players who want to see all available operators in Warzone without restrictions will not need to change anything.
At the same time, the launch of Modern Warfare 4 will not lead to the removal of previously acquired content. Operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 will remain available in Warzone. Players will also continue to use previously earned and purchased skins, weapon blueprints, and camos.
Developers also confirmed further plans for the Carry Forward system. Weapons from Modern Warfare II and subsequent games up to Black Ops 7 will continue to be in Warzone, and can be found through the Legacy tab in the loadout menu.
Players joke on social media that the decision to add the switch was influenced by low Modern Warfare 4 pre-orders. While this is unlikely, given that Warzone is distributed on a free-to-play model, this option should not be completely ruled out, as the battle royale always features in the marketing of numbered Call of Duty titles, and Activision itself promised to make the new installment much more grounded and serious.
