The limited theatrical release of the full-length adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – “Sekiro: No Defeat” – is soon to conclude in Japan. For a long time, the creators did not disclose plans for a home release, and now it has been revealed that the film shown in cinemas is a condensed compilation of the future anime.
The full version of “Sekiro: No Defeat” will be released as an eight-episode series in January 2027 and will include additional scenes that were not part of the full-length cut. ARCH announced this in a special statement, where they also apologized for not clarifying the project's format in advance:
“We apologize for not informing everyone earlier that the film currently in cinemas is an edited version, or about the existence of a TV series.”
“Sekiro: No Defeat” adapts the plot of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice into an anime format. The game's voice actors returned to their roles, including Daisuke Namikawa as Wolf, Miyuki Sato as Kuro, and Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro.
Production is handled by Qzil.la studio. Ken'ichi Kutsuna is the director, Takuya Sato wrote the script, Takahiro Kishida prepared the character designs, and Takashi Mukoda is in charge of directing the combat scenes.
The exact premiere date on streaming services has not yet been disclosed.
