Former PlayStation head Shuhei Yoshida believes that Sony and Nintendo should not rush with a new generation of consoles, as PS5 and Switch 2 still satisfy players.
In The Vergecast podcast, Yoshida noted that manufacturers can postpone the release of the next generation: current devices still offer sufficient performance.
I think Sony and Nintendo should try to keep the current generation going as long as possible, because people are very happy using PS5 and Switch 2.
According to Yoshida, many players currently do not feel the need to upgrade their consoles to more powerful ones. Prices for computer and console components have risen, and consumer budgets are limited.
Developers also do not demand a significant increase in power.
I don't think many people are saying, 'We need more power!'.
He also mentioned Microsoft, which is striving to change the balance of power in the console market. Yoshida left Sony in 2025 after approximately 30 years with the company.
