Capcom is preparing a crossover between new Resident Evil and remakes of old games

News 1

Capcom continues to develop the Resident Evil series in two directions simultaneously: the company releases new main installments that tell the continuation of the universe's story, and remakes of classic games. However, according to executive producer Jun Takeuchi, this approach has a larger goal — in the future, the two branches of the series should intersect.

As GamesRadar reports, Takeuchi told a Japanese publication that Capcom has been preparing the ground for a kind of 'crossover' between modern games and remakes for several years. According to the producer, work on this concept has been gradually ongoing since Resident Evil Village, released in 2021.

Currently, Resident Evil is developing in two directions: numbered games allow players to follow the ongoing drama of the series, while remakes provide an opportunity to relive past events.

Capcom understands that at some point, remakes may catch up with the timeline of the numbered games. The company is already thinking through mechanisms that will allow these two parts of the franchise to be combined.

Takeuchi noted that preparations for this process are already noticeable in recent games. In particular, he mentioned the return of elements such as Umbrella and Spencer, as well as the reappearance of Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem. According to the producer, all of this is part of the preparation for the future intersection of storylines.
