Developers will restrict GTA VI launch on PlayStation 5 - dataminer revealed firmware version requirements

News

It seems that tech enthusiasts will have to find new approaches to console hacking.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. As the launch date approaches, various details are being revealed.

It recently became known that PlayStation 5 consoles can be jailbroken on older firmware versions up to 13.60. It seems that the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI is being approached with the existence of a jailbreak in mind. An account called PlayStation Game Size, which usually publishes data on game sizes and preloads, posted a message about the new Rockstar Games title:

Grand Theft Auto VI requires a PS5 firmware update to version 14.10.00.00 or higher to run.

If the information from PlayStation Game Size is correct, then consoles with old software, which has already been effectively jailbroken, will not be suitable for running Grand Theft Auto VI. Recent firmware updates included security improvements, so hackers will have to find new approaches or learn how to bypass the firmware restriction to launch GTA VI.

Various PlayStation 5 console emulators are actively being developed, so some PC gamers hope that the new Rockstar Games title can be launched on computers even before the release of the full PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI.
