"Clayface" May Start Worse Than the Flop "Supergirl" - But for DC Studios, This Is Good News

The first box office predictions for the DCU body horror have emerged.

According to early Box Office Pro predictions, "Clayface" could earn between $23 million and $33 million in North America during its opening weekend. Even the upper end of the forecast was lower than the opening gross of "Supergirl," which earned $37.1 million in North America on its first weekend and finished its worldwide run with $126.4 million.

With a production budget of $170 million, "Supergirl" was a box office flop, but "Clayface" cost the studio much less. The horror film's production cost was around $40 million, so it will need significantly less box office revenue to break even. According to rough estimates, the film needs to gross about $80-100 million worldwide, and with the current forecast, such a result seems quite achievable.

"Clayface" will offer a body horror take on one of Batman's adversaries. The film was directed by James Watkins, written by Mike Flanagan, and stars Tom Rhys Harries in the lead role. The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, Eddie Marsan, and Max Minghella.

The film's world premiere is scheduled for October 21.
